There are instances that unexplained Weight Gain in women occur. Women are often troubled with Weight Gain despite their efforts of healthy lifestyle. Stories of Weight Gain in women often state these occurence being caused by perimenopause and its not your fault if this occurs causing you to Gain Weight.
Perimenopausal Weight Gain – It’s Not Your Fault
The thought of even approaching menopause makes you cringe, bringing hot flashes, mood swings, low sex drive, and night sweats to mind. Now that you find yourself experiencing unexplained weight gain, despite your eating healthy and exercising, you are shocked into the realization that this extra weight is your induction into menopause. Although you may not be thrilled about your newly acquired weight, you can rest easy knowing that this is totally normal and not from simply gorging yourself.
Perimenopause refers to the transitional years prior to menopause, when your ovaries produce less hormones, and as a result, your periods become less frequent. Great news, right?
Unfortunately with this decline in hormones, your body starts to experience a slew of hormonal changes that for some women can cause considerable discomfort and emotional turmoil in their lives. Your body starts to change its shape, adding gradual weight primarily to your abdominal area. You may be eating right and exercising, but still can’t seem to maintain your weight. As you enter the early stages of menopause, there is a shift in your body’s hormones that directly affect your appetite, metabolism and fat storage. Once your estrogen and progesterone levels drop, your body looks for other means to retain estrogen, and uses fat cells to convert to estrogen. Ultimately, whatever you take in as calories is converted to fat, and losing weight becomes an almost impossible task.
There is a bit of good news here though. These fat cells are also producing DHEA, an anti-aging hormone, which is one of the reasons why women with a few extra pounds, tend to feel healthier than very thin women – and look younger!
The drop in progesterone is also responsible for many of your perimenopausal symptoms, such as water weight and bloating. Although the water retention may not actually add on pounds, the discomfort of wearing any restrictive clothing is a monthly feeling all too familiar and one we can do without.
To understand some of the other causes of this unexplained weight gain, you need to look at the stress factors in your life, and how they affect your body on a day-to-day basis. In today’s world, women push themselves too far and place too many demands on their bodies – demands that can’t be supported. With our fast-paced lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, poor sleeping patterns, and lack of exercise, hormonal imbalance seems inevitable. The stress in our lives, whether emotional, physical, or diet-related, plays a big part in the severity of our symptoms, but all can be resolved easily in most women.
There are numerous symptoms that women experience during perimenopause. What’s important to realize, is that by making the right changes to your health, the less severe your symptoms will likely be. The good news, is that there are many things that you can do to lessen the hormonal jabs to your body during the perimenopausal stage. You can not only decrease the frequency and severity of your symptoms, but improve your health to the best it’s ever been as you enter your menopausal years.
